Spring cleaning includes your window blinds....

If you clean your blinds at least once a week they will look their absolute best. With our busy schedules, we sometime forget until they are yellow, covered in dust or pollen. The good news is you can clean your blinds in a just a few steps.

HOW TO CLEAN DUSTY BLINDS

Blinds are easier to clean with a duster or microfiber cloth. Cleaning your blinds with soap and water can leave them wet, messy and leave streaks.

Keep your blinds in place to dust them off with a duster. Clean the blinds from top to bottom and use a vacuum to clean up the dust off the floor. You will want to clean the duster off between each window so the dust in not transformed to another window.

HOW TO CLEAN VERTICAL BLINDS

Dust the vertical blinds with a duster or brush attachment from your vacuum. Then open the blinds and clean from the top to the bottom on both sides of the vertical blinds.  Once again use the vacuum to clean up the dust off the floor. Please do not use water if you have wood blinds.

If you have fabric vertical blinds, you might have to get them dry cleaned to protect the fabric.

HOW TO CLEAN HEAVY SOILED BLINDS

Dust, grease, pet hair, pollen floating in the air can make blinds greasy. Blinds that are in the kitchen can get grimy. Start to clean them by dusting off the blinds with a duster or microfiber cloth.

Get a 50/50 solution of warm water and white vinegar in a bowl. Some dishwashing soap and a sponge will also help.  Use the sponge to clean the blinds by hand and wipe each side of the blind. For metal or plastic blinds, you will want to do this with them still hanging.

You can also use your bathtub to clean off the blinds by laying them flat in the tub. Let the blinds soak in the solution for at least an hour. Use the sponge to wipe each side of the blinds. You never want to soak wood blinds.

If your blinds are wood, please use a wood cleaner applied by a cloth or sponge.
